Easy peasy recipe: a red smoothie.

Christmas is here, which means parties with family, decorations, lights, presents and loadtrucks full of food. I personally overeat quite a bit during the Holiday season, so here's a lighter snack that still has a Christmas-appropriate colour!

Easy Peasy Recipe: a green smoothie.

As you can see by the number of times I've posted anything on this blog lately, I've been very busy. Nonetheless I'm trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Most recently I ventured into the world of green smoothies. As I understand it, those are smoothies with vegetables in them. Preferably a lot of vegetables and not too much fruit as to avoid too much sugar. So after blending a banana and an avocado that I still had laying around as an enthusiastic first attempt, I went to the shop to buy a few ingredients that I thought would work well together.

What I ate today.

Hello there!
Well this is not a full blogpost, but I wanted to show this: my very first YouTube video!

It's called "What I ate today.", so I suppose the concept is pretty clear to everyone. As the food journals I posted here were quite popular, I figured this might be interesting too!
Let me know what you think!

Sincerely,
R.

Easy peasy recipe: the best porridge I've ever had.

One day I was hungry and decided to make some porridge. I added some extras to make it more interesting and less carb-heavy. Now it's my new favourite breakfast! Here's the recipe!

A coffee addict's tea picks.

Are you a tea person or a coffee person? I can safely say I'm on team coffee! I drink it every day and sometimes I have more than I should. Recently however, I've been drinking more and more tea. I was stressed out and cut back on the caffeine to make sure my body wouldn't go into overdrive. So today I present you with my favourite teas, including the one that made choose for tea more often. By tea, I mean both actual tea infusions as well as herbal infusions that don't contain the tea plant.

A recipe: fool-proof American-style brownies.

Do you like brownies? You know, chocolatey goodness, crispy on the outside and fudgy on the inside? Well if you do, keep reading! Here's a recipe that even I managed to get right from the fist time. When my family tried these, they told me how good they were and asked for the recipe, so they are definitely delicious.

A week's worth of food.

I decided to keep track of what I eat again for a week. Last time was in spring. It motivates me to eat more healthily because I know I'll publish it, and it's just nice to see it all written down and know exactly what I ate rather than having a vague idea about it. I also drink quite a lot of water before breakfast and throughout the day, but won't mention it, other beverages are always stated. And when I drink coffee it's always with a - big - splash of milk, but tea is just tea with nothing added.

Easy peasy recipe: buckwheat crepes.

It's been a long time since I posted an easy peasy recipe as I've been eating the same foods quite a lot, and dinner is usually either not inspirational at all or not easy enough to qualify for an easy peasy recipe. But lately I've been making dairy-free buckwheat crepes every now and then, so it's high time to share that recipe! As buckwheat contains no gluten, these crepes are also gluten-free.

Easy Peasy Recipe: Courgette chips.

So I saw a recipe for courgette chips floating about somewhere on the internet. It involved herbs and parmesean. As I had a courgette that needed to be eaten in the fridge, I did an improvised variation.

London purchases part four: Tea.

When in the land of teaophiles, there's no way around buying some tea. Okay, there probably is, but I got some tea anyway! There's a much wider variety of tea in the UK than there is here, so I got a few that I cannot find here.

London purchases part two: Biscuits.

What to bring home from England for a family that never drinks tea? Biscuits! So I went to Marks and Spencer to get some shortbread - which is more of a Scottish thing though - and left with a few more biscuits than planned.

The packaging got jammed during the journey home, but here they are anyway:

Two Brazil nuts a day keep the doctor away.

Lately I've been watching loads of videos on the YouTube channel IHealthTube. One of those videos has made me make a slight change in my diet. In this video it is said that, if every girl and woman in the United States would take a selenium supplement of 200 mcg every day, the incidence of breast cancer would be decreased with 82% in one generation. Dr. Glidden, the doctor that's being interviewed, goes on to argue that we should use supplements to stay healthy.
After seeing that video, I started doing a bit of research on selenium.

Easy Peasy Recipe: Raw Italian sweet pepper.

Does anyone like raw peppers? I never thought I'd voluntarily eat that, but when I tried raw Italian sweet pepper, I was pleasantly surprised! Then I tried adding some extras to it, and I've been making this for lunch a few times lately.

It's so simple, I'm not even sure it's worthy of the name 'recipe'.

Easy Peasy Recipe: coco(a)-nut granola.

Last week I stumbled upon an amazing recipe of grain free granola. A few days later I managed to make a batch and absolutely loved it. It tasted great and kept me full throughout a busy morning.
As I was working with the ingredients I had, mine is slightly different than the original recipe, but it is definitely my new favourite breakfast!

A week's worth of food.

Never in my life have I kept a food journal, but I figured I could write down what I eat every day for a week or so. It may help me eat better for I know I'm going to write it down! I always start the day with loads of water and I drink more of it throughout the day, but I haven't written down every time I drank water. Everything else is written down.

Home-made iced tea.

Frizzy drinks aren't exactly healthy, but I like to have something other than water at least once a day. To have a better option I've been making my own iced tea lately. It's a great refreshment after going for a jog, and less-sugar laden than soft drinks are. Here's how I make mine.

Easy Peasy Recipe: pesto.

I've been wanting to try and make pesto instead of buying a jar for a while. So when M. mentioned making pesto of his own whilst we were jogging, I figured I should definitely give it a try. Since I already had fresh basil from making spinach lasagne, I just got the other ingredients and gave it a go.

The ethics of food.

Earth week seems an appropriate time to focus on sustainability. In this case sustainability of our food. A few months back I read a tiny piece in the newspaper that made me think about where our food comes from. Most of my food comes from the supermarket. And whilst I prefer free range eggs to others, there's so much more to the food supply chain then we all think about whilst food shopping. Are we harming our planet and other people by consuming certain products?

Easy Peasy Recipe: avocado mash up.

I've been having avocado a few times lately. Then my sister gave me a tip to make it a bit more substantial. Whilst it isn't the most attractive looking, it makes for a good lunch!

Easy Peasy Recipe: Italian sweet pepper and goats' cheese.

I'm still loving goats' cheese, so here's another recipe using it! I first tried this recipe with two friends of mine. We were cooking together and had this as a starter.
It was so delicious I've had it several more times since!
